IELTS : Reading part 1 (Academic Training)

The IELTS Reading part 1, differs slightly depending on whether you are doing the ‘general’ or ‘academic’ version of the test.

The instructions are the same for both.

• There will be 1 hour to do all 3 parts of the academic reading test.
• Spend approximately 20 minutes on each part.
• There will 40 questions in total

Make sure you read all questions carefully and read through the text twice to be confident of the overall meaning.

Typical materials for the IELTS reading ‘academic training’ are academic papers, writing from science journals, newspaper articles and transcripts.

IELTS : Reading part 1 (General Training)

You will be given 1 hour to complete the 3 parts of the reading test and there will be 40 questions in total.

Part 1 :  consists of 2 texts, with questions 1-8 and 9-14

Make sure you allow enough time for all the sections, roughly spend 20 on Part 1.

Instructions

• only open the paper when you are told
• name and candidate number to be written on top of page
• read the questions carefully
• do not miss any questions
• use a pencil, write answers on the sheet, not as separate notes
• you have only 1 hour to complete the whole reading test
